Pittsburgh, PA. -The MSA Instrument Division announces the release of a new white paper entitled Surface Acoustic Wavelength (SAW) Sensing Technology for Detection of Nerve and Blister Agents. This paper describes the technology behind SAW and how this technology can be used for the detection of chemical warfare agents. Key factors to consider in the selection of a SAW detector are also discussed including detection limit, speed of response, dynamic range, temperature and humidity.
Surface Acoustic Wave (SAW) sensors demonstrate superior selectivity for the detection of very low levels of nerve and blister agents. Due to their solid state design and fabrication, SAW chemical sensors are extremely reliable, unlike other types of detectors that are subject to false alarms due to the presence of contaminants in the sample stream. Through proper design, SAW detectors can be used to effectively detect chemical warfare agents in a variety of environmental conditions.
